Kevin Skipworth CVO
Business Events Perth Chairman
Kevin was appointed Consultative Director and Chairman on 21 November 2016. Kevin has had a distinguished career in the Western Australian public sector. He served successive State Governments as Private Secretary for four Ministers of the Crown in various portfolios. Kevin also served the last five Governors of Western Australia as Official Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Governor's Establishment. Prior to taking up his appointment as Chairman of the Business Events Perth in November 2016, Kevin was the Agent-General of the Western Australian Government based in the London office.
Business Events Perth Vice Chairman
Ian Gay is currently Chairman, Australia's North West Tourism. Ian graduated with a BA in Economics and English Literature from Macquarie University in Sydney, and previously worked with Qantas from 1970 to 2015. During his time at Qantas, Ian held a wide variety of senior positions including passenger systems, corporate marketing, overseas management, international alliances and sales.
General Manager, Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre - Major Partner
Nigel leads an executive team across all business activities and maintains stakeholder relationships with industry and State Government Agencies. Previously, as Director of Operations at PCEC for two years, Nigel's role was to oversee several departments that handled more than 500 events annually and were attended by over 600,000 people. His areas of responsibility included operations, catering, retail, building services and maintenance, venue security and cleaning services.
Prior to that Nigel was the Executive Chef at PCEC and had been an Executive Chef in WA for over 10 years.
DIRECTOR EVENTS & CONFERENCES, CROWN PERTH - Major Partner
Michael’s current role as Director Events & Conferences at Crown Perth since 2002 has given him the fortunate opportunity to preside over and direct the Convention facilities at Crown Perth and to specialise in the Events and Convention Market
Since starting at Burswood/Crown, he has not only been responsible for the Convention facilities but have also managed in the past both the Burswood Dome F&B operations and Golf Club Operations. Michael also managed and was part of the Crown Limited takeover in 2004 and became directly responsible for the implementation of Crown’s ‘Best Practices’ and Structural Changes.
The opening of Crown Towers in December 2016 was a watershed moment for the Conference Industry in Western Australia and for Michael personally to manage this new asset for Crown.
Head of External Affairs, Cooper Energy
Bindi brings extensive experience in tourism, government relations, communications and stakeholder engagement. Her previous roles include Chief of Staff to the Federal Minister for Resources, Energy and Tourism; Deputy CEO of the Victoria Tourism Industry Council and the Victoria Events Industry Council; along with senior leadership roles within the resources and energy sectors, formally with BHP, Rio Tinto and Equinor.
Bindi has chaired a number of regional tourism boards and she played an integral role in the first National Long-Term Tourism Strategy (Tourism 2020) which resulted in a multisectoral focus on tourism supply. She continues to be a passionate advocate for the tourism industry as a key economic driver of the Australian economy. Her current board roles include; Burswood Park Board and the APPEA Corporate Affairs Committee and Climate Change Taskforce.
Area General Manager, Hilton Western Australia
David has worked extensively with Hilton Worldwide for over 25 years. His experience as Area General Manager, Hilton Western Australia, covers all areas of the hotels' operations, food and beverage and business development.
Living in Perth and being part of the business community for many years, David has seen the city develop and prosper. He has a thorough understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the convention market. The growth of the city and what it has to offer has made it a much more attractive destination for conventions and David sees this set to continue for many years.
General Manager, Pan Pacific Perth
Rob has held several General Manager positions and more recently was Vice President Sales & Marketing EMEA for a major international hotel group. He has an MBA (Marketing) and has a strong understanding of what appeals to a wide variety of consumer archetypes and a particular strength when it comes to international source market strategy.
He has experience from a career that spans more than 30 years working for some of the best hotels in the world across Australia, Asia, India, the Middle East, Europe and North America.
Managing Director, Encanta Event Management
Renee is Managing Director of Western Australia’s largest owned and operated Professional Conference Organiser, Encanta Event Management and is passionate about all things business events. Renee loves this industry and has built her career over the past 20 years in business events, delivering over 300 conferences and events across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Proudly West Australian born and bred, she is aware what sets Perth apart, ensuring her company supports local Business Events Perth members to help deliver our events across the state.
General Manager Catering, VenuesLive/Optus Stadium
Craig was appointed General Manager of Catering at VenuesLive/Optus Stadium in December 2016.
Before joining Optus Stadium, he was the catering expert behind the hospitality operations at the redeveloped Adelaide Oval and a former Director of Food and Beverage at Crown Perth.
Prior to Adelaide Oval, Craig was Director of Food & Beverage at Crown Resort Perth - handling a multi-million-dollar F&B portfolio. He played a lead role in the project team that opened eight new restaurants, including the new Atrium Buffet in 2010, 88 Noodle Bar 2010, Bistro Guillaume 2012 and Merrywell in 2012. In the lead-up to the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Craig was Food & Beverage Manager at the Hilton Hotel Chongqing, China.
