The Global Science Community Gathers in Perth for the 22nd International Conference on Campylobacter, Helicobacter, and Related Organisms.

Held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from the 7-9 October 2024, the 22nd International Conference on Campylobacter, Helicobacter and Related Organisms (CHRO) is bringing leading scientists, researchers, and clinicians from around the world to Western Australia.

The official opening will be held on Monday 7th October by Hon. Stephen Dawson, Minister for Emergency Services; Innovation and the Digital Economy; Science; Medical Research; and Minister Assisting the Minister for State and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade in the Western Australian Government.

His involvement highlights the state’s commitment to advancing scientific research and innovation.

"CHRO 2024 provides a platform for global experts to share insights into these organisms, their impact on human and animal health, and new approaches that could shape the future of medicine."

Holding special significance for Australia it marks the first time in 19 years that the conference returns to the country with the last Australian CHRO taking place on the Gold Coast in 2005 - the same year Nobel Laureates Barry Marshall and Robin Warren were awarded for their pioneering research on Helicobacter pylori.

This year’s event, chaired by Nobel Laureate Professor Barry Marshall, also commemorates the 40th anniversary of his ground-breaking self-experiment that transformed the understanding of gastrointestinal diseases.

Minister Dawson expressed his enthusiasm on bringing CHRO 2024 to Australia and the significance it will have in initiating key discussion.

“Western Australia is proud to host CHRO 2024, highlighting the state’s strengths in medical research and reinforcing Perth’s position as a centre for scientific exchange.

“This conference plays a vital role in promoting international cooperation and advancing research.”

With participants from 26 countries, CHRO 2024 offers an opportunity for sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration between researchers, helping to advance healthcare globally.

Professor Marshall underlines the importance of global collaboration and partnerships in igniting advancement in the science industry.

“When a scientific discovery is made, it’s important to share it with an international audience.

“Events like CHRO provide the opportunity to understand how these discoveries fit into the broader scientific landscape.”

CHRO 2024 is supported by Business Events Perth, the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations, and the Australia-Korea Foundation - helping the Marshall Centre bring the conference to life, next week.
