Business Events Perth announces Western Australia has officially been awarded the 17th World Congress on Environmental Health (WCEH) 2024.
The council members of the International Federation of Environmental Health recently voted to support Western Australia’s bid presented by Environmental Health Australia – Western Australia (EHA WA) in partnership with Business Events Perth to hold the next congress in Perth in May 2024.
The congress is set to attract more than 700 Environmental Health Professionals to Western Australia, for a 6-day program addressing the challenges faced in the environmental health sector around the world.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism, the Hon. Roger Cook MLA, said the event aligned well with Western Australia’s sustainability goals, and the return of events of this scale would help to bring thousands of visitors back to Perth.
"Business events and conferences like the 2024 Environmental Health World Congress play a critical role in our State's tourism industry, which is why we boosted the sector with an extra $15 million of funding through the $195 million Reconnect WA package.
"Hosting these events promotes our city, its venues and attractions to high-yield visitors who spend valuable dollars while here, and will hopefully plan a return trip for leisure purposes.
"Business Events Perth has already secured a number of high-profile events this year, and we’re proud to support the organisation’s continued efforts to pitch for large-scale events in the future."
Hon Reece Whitby MLA, WA Minister for Environment; Climate Action said the WA Government considers it imperative that we act on climate change. By understanding the changing climate and the impact on our communities and environment, we can better prepare and adapt for the future.
“Hosting the World Congress on Environmental Health 2024 will provide the opportunity to showcase leading research and policies that support measures aimed at adaptation and mitigation of the negative health impacts of climate change.
“In WA, we are expanding our Climate Action Fund, setting ambitious targets to reduce emissions, and we are committed to funding science and innovation. WA has a strong base in environmental health research at our world-leading universities and research institutes.
“I look forward to hearing more about the solutions being developed to improve global environmental health at the World Congress in 2024.”
Bid Chair and EHA WA President, Vic Andrich said we’ve been working towards this for some time, and we’re so pleased to have had our bid approved for the 2024 World Congress.
“It’s a great opportunity to welcome Environmental Health Professionals from around the world to Perth and we’re honoured to have been selected as hosts.”
Business Events Perth CEO Gareth Martin said Western Australia has a strong base in environmental health research and is at the forefront of developing solutions with new treatments and technologies.
“17th World Congress on Environmental Health 2024 is the perfect platform to showcase the research strength of our State.
“Not only will this scientific and technical conference support the business event industry in Western Australia directly contributing upwards of $2 million to the state's economy, it will provide a great opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences throughout the Asia-Pacific region showcasing Perth on the global stage”
